ANOTHER SUCKER FOR SKYPE: Earlier in the week I discovered the damndest thing: Skype, a software-based Internet phone that isn't a pain in the butt to use and gives you "in the room" quality. On top of that, it comes to us from the same minds that gave us KaZaA (the original, non-evil KaZaA people, so no spyware or malware), using the same Fasttrack-style P2P networking technology that let you screw Metallica back in the day to talk to people for free (or cheap, if you're calling out to people on regular phones). Also, they've got clients that run on Win2k and up, Linux, Mac, and Pocket PC (yeah, Tiny Windows)...all of the major food groups.

A few of the chatroom people scraped together a five-way conference call, more or less, and we'll be damned if actual conversation (as opposed to scrolling text) isn't addictive as hell. Go figure. So check it out...Skype-to-Skype calling will always be free (so they say), and if you don't have one, computer mikes are cheaper than ever.

Usual disclaimer for plugs like this: I'm not a paid shill, just a satisfied user. Also, I'm not putting a "Skype me" link on this page at the moment, since if you know me well enough to need to talk to me, you know how to find me elsewhere to get that info.
